JULEFEST  DECEMBER 20TH

Christmas is just around the corner and it’s time to finalize plans for our Julefest celebration at The Place again.  I’m certain you all had it marked on your calendars since we first set the date so we will see all of you this year.  The reservation form is attached and should be completed and sent in with a check no later than December 14th.  Please make checks payable to The Danish Club of Central Va.  Please be sure to list names of all attendees as we will be making up name tags in advance.   They like to have an approximate count sooner so if you know you will be attending, please don’t wait to the last minute.

As we have asked in the past, if you have made reservations and find that you have to cancel, please contact Lissi at (~edit~) no later than Dec. 16th.  After we give the final count no refund can be given.

We will have similar arrangements as in previous years.  For the newcomers, our Danish chef and owner of The Place at Innsbrook, Ken Thers, will be preparing the wonderful Danish spread as he has in the past which have included a cold table with a selection of herring, salmon, his wonderful liverpostej, salads, cheeses, cold cuts, etc. The hot buffet table has included frikedeller, fish, duck, pork loin with red cabbage and potatoes, vegetables, etc.   For dessert he has had ris alamonde, citron fromage and a selection of other treats.  We always leave the selection to him and he has always come through with the most wonderful food.   Iced tea, hot tea and coffee will be included.   There will be a cash bar available and we will have Afkavit for those who like and have designated drivers.

Decorate Tree & Socializing 4:00 – 5:00

Cash Bar & Dinner 5:00 – 6:30

Door Prizes,Tree and Carols        6:30 – 8:00

The price will be $25.00 each for all adult members and guests.  $10.00 for children ages 3-10.  No charge for children under age 2.

October Picnic

The October picnic at Tish and Finn’s house was great again this year despite the rain.   We set up the tables indoors and had a wonderful afternoon of food and friendship.   We had 3 Danish students from University of Richmond join us – Katrine, Liv and Kristian.  We enjoyed frikedeller, leverpostej, shrimp, cold cuts, salads, quiche and lots of wonderful desserts.  What surprised the students the most was the Carlsberg.  They did not know it was available in the US.

Thanks again Finn and Tish for hosting.

Danish Church Services

Anyone interested in Lutheran services in  Danish?   November 29th is the date at 2:00 PM.  It is conducted by Kristian Hein from the Danish Seamen’s Church in Brooklyn, NY.  Location:  Faith Lutheran Church,  3312 N. Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201.    The December service we believe is the day of our Julefest.

New Addition to Family

Hanne and John are the proud grandparents of another boy.

Parents are daughter Pamela and Niels from NYC. Max, age 2, is the proud big brother.

New Club Members

We are happy to welcome new members Soomie and Casper as well as their little girl Sydney.  They live in Midlothian.

We have also rediscovered an old friend (Gina) from the days of the International Food Festival who will hopefully be able to join us at our next gathering so we can catch up.

FYI

Finn is suggesting for anyone interested in the history of the Danish flag to check out website below.
